About

Amy McNamara is a multidisciplinary artist who works in performance art, video, analogue and digital photography. Their art explores the difficulties of selfhood through a dark humour perspective, emphasising individuality and vulnerability. Amy explores how these issues relate to individual and social experiences, frequently using humorous and subversive techniques to question accepted narratives about identity.
Amy attended Limerick College of Further Education for two years gaining a QQI Level 5 in Photography and QQI Level 6 in Advanced Photography before enrolling in The Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD). Amy graduated from LSAD in 2025 with BA (hons) Degree in Photography & Moving Image, and will begin her MA in Fine Art at LSAD in October 2025.
With pieces displayed at the ABC for Mental Health Art Exhibition (2022, 2023, 2024) and Limerick Summer Fest (2022), Amy's approach provides unvarnished, candid insights on self-expression and the ways in which identity may be created, dismantled, and perverted. Their work frequently arouse discomfort by highlighting the intricacies of human vulnerability through humour and absurdity.
Amy is influenced by artists such as Andy Kaufman, Marina Abramović, Cindy Sherman, and Robert Mapplethorpe. Their investigation of the body, identity, and the blending of private and public spheres is informed by these artists. Through their work, Amy aims to create a dialogue around societal expectations, and the power of self-representation, often questioning the line between performance and reality.
